Roadside Creche Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGGHFIJFKLGM

Traditionally Gaspar Melchoir and BalthasarA
show up with their exotic gifts though the BibleB
does not name them and some scholars believeC
the Chinese sage Liu Shang might have attendedD
with a gift of silk rather than myrrh Or evenE
better fireworks The Christ child's missingF
fingers suggest he already has some experienceG
with cherry bombs or Red Devil Ground BlastersG
In this cr che though the magi have yet to arriveH
There are no camels just a plaster zebra peeringF
over Mary's shoulder Joseph must have steppedI
out for milk or cigarettes The weight of adorationJ
has fallen onto the shoulders of a single scowlingF
shepherd with binoculars slung around his neckK
He is still keeping watch over his flock despiteL
that mischievous star that lured him from hisG
tranquil hillside and utterly bewildered dogM
