To His Father Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

Christ was your lord and captain all your lifeA
He fails the world but you he did not failB
He led you through all forms of grief and strifeA
Intact a man full armed he let prevailB
Nor outward malice nor the worse fanged snakeC
That coils in one's own brain against your calmD
That great rich jewel well guarded for his sakeC
With coronal age and death like quieting balmD
I Father having followed other guidesE
And oftener to my hurt no leader at allF
Through years nailed up like dripping panther hidesE
For trophies on a savage temple wallF
Hardly anticipate that reverend stageG
Of life the snow wreathed honor of extreme ageG
