No Resurrection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IJKI ILIM INOP

Friendship when a friend meant a helping swordA
Faithfulness when power and life were its fruits hatred when the hatedB
Held steel at your throat or had killed your children were more than metaphorsC
Life and the world were as bright as knivesD
-
But now if I should recall my ruinsE
From the grass roots and build my body again in the heavy graveF
Twist myself naked up through the earth like a strong white wormG
Tip the great stone gulp the white airH
-
And live once more after long agesI
In the change of the world I should find the old human affections hollowedJ
Should I need a friend No one will really stab me from behindK
The people in the land of the living walk weaponlessI
-
Should I hate an enemy The evil doersI
Are pitiable now Or to whom be faithful Of whom seek faithL
Who has eaten of the victor's feast and shared the fugitive silenceI
Of beaten men on the mountain sufferM
-
Resurrection to join this midge danceI
Of gutted and multiplied echoes of life in the latter sunN
Dead man be quiet A fool of a merchant who'd sell good earthO
And grass again to make modern fleshP
