Intellectuals Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGCHI JKLMD

Is it so hard for men to stand by themselvesA
They must hang on Marx or Christ or mere ProgressB
Clearly it is hard But these ought to be leadersC
Sheep leading sheep 'The fold the foldD
Night comes and the wolves of doubt ' Clearly it is hardE
-
Yourself if you had not encountered and lovedF
Our unkindly all but inhuman GodG
Who is very beautiful and too secure to want worshippersC
And includes indeed the sheep with the wolvesH
You too might have been looking about for a churchI
-
He includes the flaming stars and pitiable fleshJ
And what we call things and what we call nothingK
He is very beautiful But when these lonely have travelledL
Through long thoughts to redeeming despairM
They are tired and cover their eyes they flock into foldD
