The Nativity Of Christ Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHHH IJKJLL

Behold the father is his daughter's sonA
The bird that built the nest is hatched thereinB
The old of years an hour hath not outrunA
Eternal life to live doth now beginB
The Word is dumb the mirth of heaven doth weepC
Might feeble is and force doth faintly creepC
-
O dying souls behold your living springD
O dazzled eyes behold your sun of graceE
Dull ears attend what word this Word doth bringD
Up heavy hearts with joy your joy embraceE
From death from dark from deafness from despairsF
This life this light this Word this joy repairsF
-
Gift better than himself God doth not knowG
Gift better than his God no man can seeH
This gift doth here the giver given bestowG
Gift to this gift let each receiver beH
God is my gift himself he freely gave meH
God's gift am I and none but God shall have meH
-
Man altered was by sin from man to beastI
Beast's food is hay hay is all mortal fleshJ
Now God is flesh and lies in manger pressedK
As hay the brutest sinner to refreshJ
O happy field wherein that fodder grewL
Whose taste doth us from beasts to men renewL
