The Need Of Being Versed In Country Things Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ

The house had gone to bring againA
To the midnight sky a sunset glowB
Now the chimney was all of the house that stoodC
Like a pistil after the petals goB
-
The barn opposed across the wayD
That would have joined the house in flameE
Had it been the will of the wind was leftF
To bear forsaken the place's nameE
-
No more it opened with all one endG
For teams that came by the stony roadH
To drum on the floor with scurrying hoofsI
And brush the mow with the summer loadH
-
The birds that came to it through the airJ
At broken windows flew out and inK
Their murmur more like the sigh we sighL
From too much dwelling on what has beenK
-
Yet for them the lilac renewed its leafM
And the aged elm though touched with fireN
And the dry pump flung up an awkward armO
And the fence post carried a strand of wireN
-
For them there was really nothing sadP
But though they rejoiced in the nest they keptQ
One had to be versed in country thingsR
Not to believe the phoebes weptQ
