| They throw a forest down less cut than broken | B |
| They plant dead trees for living and the dead | C |
| They string together with a living thread | C |
| They string an instrument against the sky | A |
| Wherein words whether beaten out or spoken | B |
| Will run as hushed as when they were a thought | D |
| But in no hush they string it they go past | E |
| With shouts afar to pull the cable taught | D |
| To hold it hard until they make it fast | E |
| To ease away they have it With a laugh | F |
| An oath of towns that set the wild at naught | D |
| They bring the telephone and telegraph | F |
