Though I knew what I hunted was no true god | C |
i was just as the light was beginning to fail | B |
That I suddenly head all I needed to hear | D |
It has lasted me many and many a year | E |

A sleepy sound but mocking half | G |
As one who utterly couldn't care | H |
The Demon arose from his wallow to laugh | G |
Brushing the dirt from his eye as he went | I |
And well I knew what the Demon meant | I |

I shall not forget how his laugh rang out | J |
I felt as a fool to have been so caught | K |
And checked my steps to make pretense | L |
I was something among the leaves I sought | M |
Though doubtful whether he stayed to see | N |
Thereafter I sat me against a tree | N |
