| As you came up the hill We met But all | A |

| Footprints in summer dust as if we drew | B |
| The figure of our being less that two | B |
| But more than one as yet Your parasol | A |
| Pointed the decimal off with one deep thrust | C |
| And all the time we talked you seemed to see | D |
| Something down there to smile at in the dust | C |
| Oh it was without prejudice to me | D |
| Afterward I went past what you had passed | E |
