A Winter Eden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGG HHII JJKK

A winter garden in an alder swampA
Where conies now come out to sun and rompA
As near a paradise as it can beB
And not melt snow or start a dormant treeB
-
It lifts existence on a plane of snowC
One level higher than the earth belowC
One level nearer heaven overheadD
And last year's berries shining scarlet redD
-
It lifts a gaunt luxuriating beastE
Where he can stretch and hold his highest featF
On some wild apple tree's young tender barkG
What well may prove the year's high girdle markG
-
So near to paradise all pairing endsH
Here loveless birds now flock as winter friendsH
Content with bud inspecting They presumeI
To say which buds are leaf and which are bloomI
-
A feather hammer gives a double knockJ
This Eden day is done at two o'clockJ
An hour of winter day might seem too shortK
To make it worth life's while to wake and sportK
