The Storm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABACADAAEAAFAGAABHI AJKILMAA

Stooping over London skies convulsedA
With thunder moved a rumour of storm remoteA
Hushed them and birds flew troubled The gradual cloudsB
Up from the West climbing above the EastA
Glowed sullen as copper embossed against their gloomC
Like ghosts astonished thronged the steeples whiteA
Still with absorbed hurry the streets' uproarD
Ran shadowed by strange unquiet as vaguely pursuedA
Lone workers from drear windows looked and sighedA
Nearer drooped the sky's contracted faceE
The face of a Titan in punishment heavily bowedA
As painful sweat the drops fell loud at lastA
With silent shivering flashes of angry flameF
Long stifled his deep thunder burst and groanedA
Then crawling over the banks of darkness brokeG
And loosened splendour showered its arrows abroadA
Now opposite the retreating storm aghastA
In full recovered sun new dazzling cloudsB
Alp beyond Alp glitter in awful snowH
Men stop in the street to wonder The brilliance runsI
Washing with silent waves the town opprestA
Startles squalid rooms with a sudden smileJ
Enters gloomy courts and glories thereK
Strange as a vision the wide expanded heavensI
Open the living wind with nearness breathesL
On weary faces of women of many caresM
They stand at their doors and watch with a soothed spiritA
The marvellous West asleep in endless lightA
