The English Youth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGGHHIIJJKK AALLM MNNOOAAPPQQRR| There is a dimness fallen on old fames | A |
| Our hearts are solemnized with dearer names | A |
| Than Time is bright with we have not heard alone | B |
| Or read of it in books it is our own | B |
| Eyes that have seen this wonder like a song | C |
| It is in our mouths for ever There was wrong | C |
| Done and the world shamed Honour blew the call | D |
| And each one's answer was as natural | E |
| And quiet as the needle's to the pole | F |
| Who gave must give himself entire and whole | F |
| So books were shut and young dreams shaken out | G |
| In cold air dear ambitions done without | G |
| And a stark duty shouldered And yet they | H |
| Who now must narrow to their arduous day | H |
| Did not forget their nurture nor the kind | I |
| Muses of earth nor joys of eager mind | I |
| Graced in their comradeship and prizing more | J |
| Life's beauty and all the sweetness at the core | J |
| Because of that loathed business they were set | K |
| To do and finish It was the world's debt | K |
| Claiming all but they knew and would not wince | A |
| From that exaction on their flesh and since | A |
| They did not seek for glory our hearts add | L |
| A more than glory to that hope they had | L |
| And gloriously and terribly achieved | M |
| - | |
| O histories of old time half believed | M |
| None needs to wrong the modesty of truth | N |
| In matching with your legend England's youth | N |
| But all renown that fearless arms could win | O |
| For proud adventuring wondrous Paladin | O |
| Is glimmering laurel now Romance that was | A |
| The coloured air of a forgotten cause | A |
| About the heads of heroes dead and bright | P |
| Shines home We are accompanied with light | P |
| Because of youth among us and the name | Q |
| Of man is touched with an ethereal flame | Q |
| There is a newness in the world begun | R |
| A difference in the setting of the sun | R |
