The English Graves Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LMLM NONO PQPQ RSRT UVUV

The rains of yesterday are flownA
And light is on the farthest hillsB
The homeliest rough grass by the stoneA
To radiance thrillsB
-
And the wet bank above the ditchC
Trailing its thorny bramble showsD
Soft apparitions clustered richC
Of the pure primroseD
-
The shining stillness breathes vibratesE
From simple earth to lonely skyF
A hinted wonder that awaitsE
The heart's replyF
-
O lovely life the chaffinch singsG
High on the hazel near and clearH
Sharp to the heart's blood sweetness springsG
In the morning hereI
-
But my heart goes with the young cloudJ
That voyages the April lightK
Southward across the beaches loudJ
And cliffs of whiteK
-
To fields of France far fields that spreadL
Beyond the tumbling of the wavesM
And touches as with shadowy treadL
The English gravesM
-
There too is Earth that never weepsN
The unrepining Earth that holdsO
The secret of a thousand sleepsN
And there unfoldsO
-
Flowers of sweet ignorance on the slopeP
Where strong arms dropped and blood choked breathQ
Earth that forgets all things but hopeP
And smiles on deathQ
-
They poured their spirits out in prideR
They throbbed away the price of yearsS
Now that dear ground is glorifiedR
With dreams with tearsT
-
A flower there is sown to budU
And bloom beyond our loss and smartV
Noble France at its root is bloodU
From England's heartV
