The Destroyer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

He stands on high in the torch glareA
With planted feet with lifted axeB
Behind a gulf of crimsoned airA
Beneath the old wall that gapes and cracksB
-
Tossed fragments crash to dust and smokeC
Exulting life aloft he standsD
And drives his unrepentant strokeC
Nor heeds the havoc of his handsD
-
Below one lingers gazing WhyE
Within his heart does secret joyF
Quivering awaken and replyE
To each home blow Destroy destroyF
-
Lulled in the casual feast of senseG
Awed by the ages' fortress wallsH
Out of its slumber roused intenseG
To the swung axe a demon callsH
-
Man's Demon never satiateI
That finds nought made to its desireJ
How shall it to this world be mateI
To a world of stone a heart of fireJ
