The Autumn Crocus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCA DEFEGHIHJJFJGKLMNNKIn the high woods that crest our hills | A |
Upon a steep rough slope of forest ground | B |
Where few flowers grow sweet blooms to day I found | B |
Of the Autumn Crocus blowing pale and fair | C |
Dim falls the sunlight there | C |
And a mild fragrance the lone thicket fills | A |
- | |
Languidly curved the long white stems | D |
Their purple flowers' gold treasure scarce display | E |
Lost were their leaves since in the distant spring | F |
Their February sisters showed so gay | E |
Roses of June ye too have followed fleet | G |
Forsaken now and shaded as by thought | H |
As by the human shade of thought and dreams | I |
They bloom 'mid the dark wood whose air has wrought | H |
With what soft nights and mornings of still dew | J |
Into their slender petals that clear hue | J |
Like paleness in fresh cheeks a thing | F |
On earth I vowed ne'er grew | J |
More delicately pure more shyly sweet | G |
Child of the pensive autumn woods | K |
So lovely though thou dwell obscure and lone | L |
And though thy flush and gaiety be gone | M |
Say among flowers of the sad human mind | N |
Where shall I ever find | N |
So rare a grace in what shy solitudes | K |
