The Anvil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF

Burned from the ore's rejected drossA
The iron whitens in the heatB
With plangent strokes of pain and lossA
The hammers on the iron beatB
Searched by the fire through death and doleC
We feel the iron in our soulC
-
O dreadful Forge if torn and bruisedD
The heart more urgent comes our cryE
Not to be spared but to be usedD
Brain sinew and spirit before we dieE
Beat out the iron edge it keenF
And shape us to the end we meanF
