Stars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHIJKIL MNNOOPP| And must I deem you mortal as my kind | A |
| O solemn stars that to man's doubtful mind | A |
| So long have seemed 'mid the world's fallen kings | B |
| And glories gone the sole eternal things | B |
| To perishable flesh and mouldering dust | C |
| Heaven's symbols fixt triumphant and august | C |
| Do ye too suffer change ye too decay | D |
| Waxing and waning like an earthly day | D |
| So must I deem yet not with such a light | E |
| Shine ye on this serene September night | E |
| No nor as alien splendours worlds not ours | F |
| In perfect order marshalled mighty Powers | F |
| Beneath whose peace we darkly do and dream | G |
| Not now so vast not so remote ye seem | G |
| But it may be some rising human tear | H |
| That dims my eyes and draws your radiance near | I |
| Sweet tokens of the lands ye look upon | J |
| Faces upturned like mine unknown yet known | K |
| Of musing friends and lovers ye appear | I |
| Pulses of Heaven whose beating mirrors forth | L |
| The beating of the unnumbered hearts of earth | M |
| Eyes that in love watch over weary men | N |
| Once more I lift my gaze to you as then | N |
| In childhood when you seemed but lovely lights | O |
| The glorious visitants of cloudless nights | O |
| And as I gaze I feel renewed the joy | P |
| Ignorance felt nor knowledge can destroy | P |
