Solitude Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFDGHIDDJDKLDMNO DPQRDSTU| The stag that lifted up his kingly head | A |
| Upon the silent mountains and from far | B |
| Beneath him heard the confident harsh cry | C |
| Of men invading his old solitudes | D |
| Then bounding over the rough slopes has climbed | E |
| By dancing brooks remoter ranges thick | F |
| With forests moaning in the cloudy winds | D |
| Of desolate November nor has stayed | G |
| Till on the utmost craggy ledge among | H |
| Wet boughs with antlers dripping from the mist | I |
| And with sweat darkened quivering coat he snuffs | D |
| Wide nostrilled the wild air where motionless | D |
| He stands at last what shudder as of joy | J |
| Deeply to breathe that native loneliness | D |
| Possesses him From reddened oaks around | K |
| Lost leaves are torn innumerably and whirled | L |
| Fast as from hearts of men their fearful hopes | D |
| Into the drizzling gulf he hears beyond | M |
| From cliffs that dimly tower in abrupt | N |
| Strange precipices the world ancient roar | O |
| Of headlong torrents now the vapour rolls | D |
| Blank over all now rending it a gust | P |
| Reveals by golden glimpses the pale stream | Q |
| Poured in a trembling pillar at whose foot | R |
| The snowy seethe shoots forward and recoils | D |
| For one tumultuous moment then again | S |
| Arches into one pure unfretted wave | T |
| And sends a voice in splendour down the gorge | U |
