Present And Future Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCBDDEFGHHFIIJC KCJCCLMMLFNFOOP

Look as a mother bending o'er her boyA
The sleeping boy that in her bosom liesB
Gazes upon him in a trance of joyA
With earnest infinitely tender eyesB
Lost in her deep love and aware of noughtC
Earth and the sunlight men and trees and skiesB
Quite faded out from her impassioned thoughtC
Yet knows one day it will be otherwiseB
When laid alone within the narrow tombD
Death leaves her none to love but in youth's bloomD
Or grown to manhood and to strength her sonE
Over the same earth that has closed on herF
Rejoicing wanders onG
And strikes fresh tracks of thronged and fruitful lifeH
Nor frets at the sweet need for change and strifeH
With eager mind and glowing heart astirF
In ardour ever to pursueI
Passions and actions and adventures newI
So is the Present AgeJ
So strives she for that Age to come her childC
Which knows not yet the pain the sacrificeK
She for its sake endures it knows not yetC
But must one day the battles it must wageJ
And she if it within its sleep have smiledC
Is happy in her woes no vain regretC
Saps the sad strength with which she labours stillL
For that imagined bliss she shall not seeM
So dear so deeply hoped for though it beM
And ever with unconquerable willL
Bearing her burden toward one distant starF
She moves in her desire and though with painN
She labour and the goal she dreams be farF
Proud is she in her passionate soul to knowO
That from her tears her very sorrows growO
The joy the hope the peace of future menP
