Orphans Of Flanders Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Where is the land that fathered nourished pouredA
The sap of a strong race into your veinsB
Land of wide tilth of farms and granaries storedA
Of old towers chiming over peaceful plainsB
-
It is become a vision barred awayC
Like light in cloud a memory and beliefD
On those lost plains the Glory of yesterdayC
Builds her dark towers for the bells of GriefD
-
It is become a splendour circled nameE
For all the world a torch against the skiesF
Burns on that blood spot the unpardoned shameE
Of them that conquered but your homeless eyesF
-
See rather some brown pond by a white wallG
Red cattle crowding in the rutty laneH
A garden where the hollyhocks were tallG
In the Augusts that shall never be againI
-
There your thoughts cling as the long thrusting rootJ
Clings in the ground your orphaned hearts are thereK
O mates of sunburnt earth your love is muteJ
But strong like thirst and deeper than despairK
-
You have endured what pity can but gropeL
To feel into that darkness enters noneM
We have but hands to help yours is the hopeL
Whose courage rises silent with the sunM
