Guns At The Front Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CAAC BDDB EFFE GEEG

Man simple and brave easily confidingA
Giving his all glad of the sun's sweetnessB
Heeding little of pitiful incompletenessB
Mending life with laughter and cheerful chidingA
-
Where is he I see him not but I hearC
Sounds charged with nothing but death and maimingA
Earth and sky empty of all but flamingA
Bursts and shocks that stun the waiting earC
-
Monsters roaring aloud with hideous vastnessB
Nothing Nothing Nothing And man that made themD
Mightier far than himself has stooped and obeyed themD
Schooled his mind to endure its own aghastnessB
-
Serving death destruction and things inertE
He the soarer free of heavens to roam inF
He whose heart has a world of light to home inF
Confounding day with darkness flesh with dirtE
-
Oh dear indeed the cause that so can prove himG
Pitilessly self tested If no cause beaconedE
Beyond this chaos better he bled unreckonedE
With his own monsters bellowing madness above himG
