Going West Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDAEFFGCHIJKLMNLJO NPQPQ| Just as I came | A |
| Into the empty westward facing room | B |
| A sudden gust blew wide | C |
| The tall window at once | D |
| A shock of sudden light vibrating like a flame | A |
| Entered as if it were the wind's bright spirit | E |
| Stealing to me upon some secret quest | F |
| The wonder of the West | F |
| Burst open under dark and rushing cloud | G |
| That rained illumined drops it glorified | C |
| Each corner where so dazzlingly it struck | H |
| The shadows cowered the brilliance overflowed | I |
| As suddenly all faded | J |
| Wet wild air blew in | K |
| At the idly swinging door | L |
| Stormily crumpled fallen shreds of leaves | M |
| Dried scarlet and burnt yellow and ashy brown | N |
| They fluttered in like fears and blew across the floor | L |
| And I to the heart invaded | J |
| Felt as that wild light palpitated through me | O |
| And died in a moment down | N |
| Exalted by a visionary fear | P |
| That from the light more than the shadow fell | Q |
| A divination of splendid spirits near | P |
| Of glorious parting and of great farewell | Q |
