Cherwell Stream Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLLK

Green banks and gliding riverA
What air from what far placeB
Comes down your waters' faceB
And makes your willows shiverA
-
Over me stole a spellC
A breath upon my browD
Light on my spirit fellC
I knew not whence nor howD
-
Faded into a dreamE
Are Oxford's spires and towersF
Far down the winding streamE
Beyond the fields and flowersF
-
Is it that Nature hereG
Finding me thus aloneH
Would whisper in my earG
Some secret of her ownH
-
Would win her child againI
To these beloved retreatsJ
Shunned now too long for menI
For throngs and busy streetsJ
-
I know not Round the bendK
The sound of oars comes fastL
My moment's spell is pastL
I hear the voice of a friendK
