Before Sleep Comes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJI KLML NOPO QRSR TUVU

Where do you float from visions that shine ere sleepA
Subdues with leaden lawB
The dancing fires of the brain In a shadowy landC
As a king from a tower I sawB
-
There came startled gazelles beautifully leapingD
Delicate hoofed they were goneE
And the red pomegranate showered its petalled bloomF
On the glittering stream aloneG
-
I saw the dust on an Indian plain and a groveH
Where pilgrims went in whiteI
I saw the mountains throned upon purple airJ
Remote in sculptured lightI
-
And I saw the broadening beams of the early sunK
On the pale Pacific meltL
And naked fishermen idly rocked in a boatM
Their briny nets I smeltL
-
I saw amid Asian deserts a bed of reedsN
And a heron slowly roseO
To the cloud from wild reeds blown by a wind that cameP
From a land no man yet knowsO
-
And I watched a tall ship gliding out of the mistQ
By a snow seamed iron capeR
The smoky wraiths clung round her but on she stemmedS
Self willed a wing bright shapeR
-
Then all fell dark Yet still in a trance elateT
And strange to myself I layU
Here was the black soft stillness but where was IV
Far away far awayU
