Airmen From Overseas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GFHF IJHJ KLML NOPO

Who are these that come from the ends of the oceansA
Coming as the swallows come out of the SouthB
In the glory of Spring They are come among usC
With purpose in the eyes with a smile on the mouthB
-
These are they who have left the familiar facesD
Sights sounds and scents of familiar landE
Taking no care for security promised aforetimeF
Sweetness of home and the future hope had plannedE
-
A lode star drew them Britain standing aloneG
Clear in the darkness not to be overcomeF
Though the huge masses of hate are hurled against herH
Wherever the spirit of freedom breathes is HomeF
-
Soon are they joined with incomparable comradesI
Britain's flower Britain's prideJ
Against all odds despising the boastful TerrorH
On joyous wings in the ways of the wind they rideJ
-
From afar they battle for our ancient islandK
Soaring and pouncing masters of the skiesL
They are heard in the night by the lands betrayed and captiveM
And a throbbing of hope to their thunder throb repliesL
-
To dare incredible things from the ends of oceanN
They are coming and coming over the perilous seasO
How shall we hail them Truly there are no wordsP
And no song worthy of theseO
