A Hymn Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDE FGFGHIIJ FKFKLMML NONOPQQP RSRTUVVUO hush sweet birds that linger in lonely song | A |
Hold in your evening fragrance wet May bloom | B |
But drooping branches and leaves that greenly throng | A |
Darken and cover me over in tenderer gloom | B |
As a water lily unclosing on some shy pool | C |
Filled with rain upon tremulous water lying | D |
With joy afraid to speak yet fain to be sighing | D |
Its riches out my heart is full too full | E |
- | |
Votaries that have veiled their secret shrine | F |
In veils of incense falteringly that rise | G |
And stealing in milky clouds of wavering line | F |
Round soaring pillars hang like adoring sighs | G |
They watch the smoke ascending soft as thought | H |
Till wide in the fragrant dimness peace is shed | I |
And out of their perfect vision the world is fled | I |
Because the heart sees pure when the eye sees not | J |
- | |
I too will veil my joy that is too divine | F |
For my heart to comprehend or tongue to speak | K |
The whole earth is my temple and Love the shrine | F |
That all the hearts of the world worship and seek | K |
But the incense cloud I burn to veil my bliss | L |
Is woven of air and waters and living sun | M |
Colour and odour and music and light made one | M |
Come down O night and take from me all but this | L |
- | |
I dreamed of wonders strange in a strange air | N |
But this my joy my dream my wonder is near | O |
As grass to the earth that clings so close and fair | N |
Nourished by all it nourishes O most dear | O |
I dreamed of beauty pacing enchanted ground | P |
But you with beauty over my waiting soul | Q |
As the blood steals over the cheek at a heart throb stole | Q |
In the beating of my heart I have known you I have found | P |
- | |
Incredulous world be far and tongues profane | R |
For now in my spirit there burns a steadfast faith | S |
No longer I fear you earth's sad bondage vain | R |
Nor prison walls of Time nor the gates of Death | T |
For the marvel that was most marvellous is most true | U |
To the music that moves the universe moves my heart | V |
And the song of the starry worlds I sing apart | V |
In the night and shadow and stillness Love for you | U |
