A Hymn Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDE FGFGHIIJ FKFKLMML NONOPQQP RSRTUVVU

O hush sweet birds that linger in lonely songA
Hold in your evening fragrance wet May bloomB
But drooping branches and leaves that greenly throngA
Darken and cover me over in tenderer gloomB
As a water lily unclosing on some shy poolC
Filled with rain upon tremulous water lyingD
With joy afraid to speak yet fain to be sighingD
Its riches out my heart is full too fullE
-
Votaries that have veiled their secret shrineF
In veils of incense falteringly that riseG
And stealing in milky clouds of wavering lineF
Round soaring pillars hang like adoring sighsG
They watch the smoke ascending soft as thoughtH
Till wide in the fragrant dimness peace is shedI
And out of their perfect vision the world is fledI
Because the heart sees pure when the eye sees notJ
-
I too will veil my joy that is too divineF
For my heart to comprehend or tongue to speakK
The whole earth is my temple and Love the shrineF
That all the hearts of the world worship and seekK
But the incense cloud I burn to veil my blissL
Is woven of air and waters and living sunM
Colour and odour and music and light made oneM
Come down O night and take from me all but thisL
-
I dreamed of wonders strange in a strange airN
But this my joy my dream my wonder is nearO
As grass to the earth that clings so close and fairN
Nourished by all it nourishes O most dearO
I dreamed of beauty pacing enchanted groundP
But you with beauty over my waiting soulQ
As the blood steals over the cheek at a heart throb stoleQ
In the beating of my heart I have known you I have foundP
-
Incredulous world be far and tongues profaneR
For now in my spirit there burns a steadfast faithS
No longer I fear you earth's sad bondage vainR
Nor prison walls of Time nor the gates of DeathT
For the marvel that was most marvellous is most trueU
To the music that moves the universe moves my heartV
And the song of the starry worlds I sing apartV
In the night and shadow and stillness Love for youU
