The Shepherd And His Dog Rover Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHG IJIJKDKD

ROVER awake the grey Cock crowsA
Come shake your coat and go with meB
High in the East the green Hill glowsA
And glory crowns our shelt'ring TreeB
The Sheep expect us at the foldC
My faithful Dog let's haste awayD
And in his earliest beams beholdC
And hail the source of cheerful dayD
-
Half his broad orb o'erlooks the HillE
And darting down the Valley fliesF
At every casement welcome stillE
The golden summons of the skiesF
Go fetch my Staff and o'er the dewsG
Let Echo waft thy gladsome voiceH
Shall we a cheerful note refuseG
When rising Morn proclaims 'Rejoice '-
-
Now then we'll start and thus I'll slingI
Our store a trivial load to bearJ
Yet ere night comes should hunger stingI
I'll not encroach on Rover's shareJ
The fresh breeze bears its sweets alongK
The Lark but chides us while we stayD
Soon shall the Vale repeat my songK
Go brush before away awayD
