| - | |
| - | |
| Health I seek thee dost thou love | B |
| The mountain top or quiet vale | C |
| Or deign o'er humbler hills to rove | D |
| On showery June's dark south west gale | C |
| If so I'll meet all blasts that blow | E |
| With silent step but not forlorn | F |
| Though goddess at thy shrine I bow | G |
| And woo thee each returning morn | F |
| - | |
| I seek thee where with all his might | H |
| The joyous bird his rapture tells | I |
| Amidst the half excluded light | H |
| That gilds the fox glove's pendant bells | I |
| Where cheerly up this bold hill's side | J |
| The deep'ning groves triumphant climb | K |
| In groves Delight and Peace abide | J |
| And Wisdom marks the lapse of time | K |
| - | |
| To hide me from the public eye | L |
| To keep the throne of Reason clear | M |
| Amidst fresh air to breathe or die | L |
| I took my staff and wander'd here | N |
| Suppressing every sigh that heaves | O |
| And coveting no wealth but thee | P |
| I nestle in the honied leaves | O |
| And hug my stolen liberty | P |
| - | |
| O'er eastward uplands gay or rude | Q |
| Along to Erith's ivied spire | R |
| I start with strength and hope renew'd | Q |
| And cherish life's rekindling fire | S |
| Now measure vales with straining eyes | T |
| Now trace the church yard's humble names | U |
| Or climb brown heaths abrupt that rise | T |
| And overlook the winding Thames | V |
| - | |
| I love to mark the flow'ret's eye | L |
| To rest where pebbles form my bed | W |
| Where shapes and colours scatter'd lie | L |
| In varying millions round my head | W |
| The soul rejoices when alone | X |
| And feels her glorious empire free | P |
| Sees GOD in every shining stone | X |
| And revels in variety | P |
| - | |
| Ah me perhaps within my sight | H |
| Deep in the smiling dales below | E |
| Gigantic talents Heav'n's pure light | H |
| And all the rays of genius glow | E |
| In some lone soul whom no one sees | Y |
| With power and will to say Arise | T |
| Or chase away the slow disease | Y |
| And Want's foul picture from his eyes | T |
| - | |
| A worthier man by far than I | L |
| With more of industry and fire | S |
| Shall see fair Virtue's meed pass by | L |
| Without one spark of fame expire | R |
| Bleed not my heart it will be so | E |
| The throb of care was thine full long | Z |
| Rise like the Psalmist from his woe | E |
| And pour abroad the joyful song | Z |
| - | |
| Sweet Health I seek thee hither bring | A2 |
| Thy balm that softens human ills | B2 |
| Come on the long drawn clouds that fling | A2 |
| Their shadows o'er the Surry Hills | B2 |
| Yon green topt hills and far away | C2 |
| Where late as now I freedom stole | D2 |
| And spent one dear delicious day | C2 |
| On thy wild banks romantic Mole | D2 |
| - | |
| - | |
| Aye there's the scene beyond the sweep | E2 |
| Of London's congregated cloud | F2 |
| The dark brow'd wood the headlong steep | E2 |
| And valley paths without a crowd | F2 |
| Here Thames I watch thy flowing tides | G2 |
| Thy thousand sails am proud to see | P |
| But where the Mole all silent glides | G2 |
| Dwells Peace and Peace is wealth to me | P |
| - | |
| Footnote Box Hill and the beautiful neighbourhood of Dorking in Surry | P |
| - | |
| Of Cambrian mountains still I dream | H2 |
| And mouldering vestiges of war | I2 |
| By time worn cliff or classic stream | H2 |
| Would rove but prudence holds a bar | J2 |
| Conic then O Health I'll strive to bound | K2 |
| My wishes to this airy stand | L2 |
| 'Tis not for me to trace around | K2 |
| The wonders of my native land | L2 |
| - | |
| Yet the loud torrent's dark retreat | M2 |
| Yet Grampian hills shall Fancy give | N2 |
| And towering in her giddy scat | O2 |
| Amidst her own creation live | P2 |
| Live if thou'lt urge my climbing feet | M2 |
| Give strength of nerve and vigorous breath | Q2 |
| If not with dauntless soul I meet | M2 |
| The deep solemnity of death | Q2 |
| - | |
| This far seen monumental tower | S |
| Records th' achievements of the brave | R2 |
| And Angria's subjugated power | S |
| Who plunder'd on the eastern wave | R2 |
| I would not that such turrets rise | T |
| To point out where my bones arc laid | S2 |
| Save that some wandering bard might prize | T |
| The comforts of its broad cool shade | S2 |
| - | |
| O Vanity since thou'rt decreed | T2 |
| Companion of our lives to be | P |
| I'll seek the moral songster's meed | T2 |
| An earthly immortality | T2 |
| Most vain O let me from the past | T2 |
| Remembering what to man is given | U2 |
| Lay Virtue's broad foundations fast | T2 |
| Whose glorious turrets reach to Heav'n | U2 |
