Peace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI JKJKLMLM NMNMOPOQ RMRMSTST

Halt ye Legions sheathe your SteelA
Blood grows precious shed no moreB
Cease your toils your wounds to healA
Lo beams of Mercy reach the shoreB
From Realms of everlasting lightC
The favour'd guest of Heaven is comeD
Prostrate your Banners at the sightC
And bear the glorious tidings homeE
-
The plunging corpse with half clos'd eyesF
No more shall stain th' unconscious brineG
Yon pendant gay that streaming fliesF
Around its idle Staff shall twineG
Behold along th' etherial skyH
Her beams o'er conquering Navies spreadI
Peace Peace the leaping Sailors cryH
With shouts that might arouse the deadI
-
Then forth Britannia's thunder poursJ
A vast reiterated soundK
From Line to Line the Cannon roarsJ
And spreads the blazing joy aroundK
Return ye brave your Country callsL
Return return your task is doneM
While here the tear of transport fallsL
To grace your Laurels nobly wonM
-
Albion Cliffs from age to ageN
That bear the roaring storms of Heav'nM
Did ever fiercer Warfare rageN
Was ever Peace more timely givenM
Wake sounds of Joy rouse generous IsleO
Let every patriot bosom glowP
Beauty resume thy wonted smileO
And Poverty thy cheerful browQ
-
Boast Britain of thy glorious GuestsR
Peace Wealth and Commerce all thine ownM
Still on contented Labour restsR
The basis of a lasting ThroneM
Shout Poverty 'tis Heaven that savesS
Protected Wealth the chorus raiseT
Ruler of War of Winds and WavesS
Accept a prostrate Nation's praiseT
