How bright with pearl the western skyA
How glorious far and wideB
Yon lines of golden clouds that lieA
So peaceful side by sideB
Their deep'ning tints the arch of lightC
All eyes with rapture seeD
E'en while I sigh I bless the sightC
That lures my love from meD
-
Green hill that shad'st the valley hereE
Thou bear'st upon thy browF
The only wealth to Mary dearG
And all she'll ever knowH
There in the crimson light I seeD
Above thy summit riseI
My Edward's form he looks to meD
A statue in the skiesI
-
Descend my love the hour is comeJ
Why linger on the hillK
The sun hath left my quiet homeL
But thou canst see him stillK
Yet why a lonely wanderer strayM
Alone the joy pursueN
The glories of the closing dayM
Can charm thy Mary tooN
-
Dear Edward when we stroll'd alongO
Beneath the waving cornP
And both confess'd the power of songO
And bless'd the dewy mornP
Your eye o'erflow'd How sweet you criedB
My presence then could moveQ
How sweet with Mary by my sideB
To gaze and talk of loveR
-
Thou art not false that cannot beD
Yet I my rivals deemS
Each woodland charm the moss the treeD
The silence and the streamS
Whate'er my love detains thee nowF
I'll yet forgive thy stayM
But with to morrow's dawn come thouF
We'll brush the dews awayM
