Love Of The Country Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFGHIHI JKJKLMLM NONOPQPR

Written At Clare Hall Herts JuneA
-
Welcome silence welcome peaceB
O most welcome holy shadeC
Thus I prove as years increaseB
My heart and soul for quiet madeC
Thus I fix my firm beliefD
While rapture's gushing tears descendE
That every flower and every leafD
Is moral Truth's unerring friendE
-
I would not for a world of goldF
That Nature's lovely face should tireG
Fountain of blessings yet untoldF
Pure source of intellectual fireG
Fancy's fair buds the germs of songH
Unquicken'd midst the world's rude strifeI
Shall sweet retirement render strongH
And morning silence bring to lifeI
-
Then tell me not that I shall growJ
Forlorn that fields and woods will cloyK
From Nature and her changes flowJ
An everlasting tide of joyK
I grant that summer heats will burnL
That keen will come the frosty nightM
But both shall please and each in turnL
Yield Reason's most supreme delightM
-
Build me a shrine and I could kneelN
To Rural Gods or prostrate fallO
Did I not see did I not feelN
That one GREAT SPIRIT governs allO
O heav'n permit that I may lieP
Where o'er my corse green branches wareQ
And those who from life's tumult flyP
With kindred feelings press my graveR
