The Pig Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJK LLMMNNOOPKQQRRSSTTRR UUVVWWCCXXYKIn England once there lived a big | A |
And wonderfully clever pig | A |
To everybody it was plain | B |
That Piggy had a massive brain | B |
He worked out sums inside his head | C |
There was no book he hadn't read | C |
He knew what made an airplane fly | D |
He knew how engines worked and why | D |
He knew all this but in the end | E |
One question drove him round the bend | E |
He simply couldn't puzzle out | F |
What LIFE was really all about | F |
What was the reason for his birth | G |
Why was he placed upon this earth | G |
His giant brain went round and round | H |
Alas no answer could be found | H |
Till suddenly one wondrous night | I |
All in a flash he saw the light | I |
He jumped up like a ballet dancer | J |
And yelled 'By gum I've got the answer ' | K |
'They want my bacon slice by slice | L |
'To sell at a tremendous price | L |
'They want my tender juicy chops | M |
'To put in all the butcher's shops | M |
'They want my pork to make a roast | N |
'And that's the part'll cost the most | N |
'They want my sausages in strings | O |
'They even want my chitterlings | O |
'The butcher's shop The carving knife | P |
'That is the reason for my life ' | K |
Such thoughts as these are not designed | Q |
To give a pig great peace of mind | Q |
Next morning in comes Farmer Bland | R |
A pail of pigswill in his hand | R |
And piggy with a mighty roar | S |
Bashes the farmer to the floor | S |
Now comes the rather grisly bit | T |
So let's not make too much of it | T |
Except that you must understand | R |
That Piggy did eat Farmer Bland | R |
He ate him up from head to toe | U |
Chewing the pieces nice and slow | U |
It took an hour to reach the feet | V |
Because there was so much to eat | V |
And when he finished Pig of course | W |
Felt absolutely no remorse | W |
Slowly he scratched his brainy head | C |
And with a little smile he said | C |
'I had a fairly powerful hunch | X |
'That he might have me for his lunch | X |
'And so because I feared the worst | Y |
'I thought I'd better eat him first ' | K |
