Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGHDHD BIBIJDJD

He was weary of all of his usual joysA
His books and his blocks made him tiredB
And so did his games and mechanical toysA
And the songs he had always admiredB
So I told him a story a story so newC
It had never been heard anywhereD
A tale disconnected unlikely untrueC
Called The Grocery Man and the BearD
-
I didn't think much of the story despiteE
The fact 'twas a child of my brainF
And I never dreamt when I told it that nightE
That I'd have to tell it againG
I never imagined 'twould make such a hitH
With the audience of one that was thereD
That for hours at a time he would quietly sitH
Through The Grocery Man and the BearD
-
To all other stories this one is preferredB
It's the season's best seller by farI
And out at our house it's as frequently heardB
As cuss words in Mexico areI
When choo choos and horses and picture books failJ
He'll remain quite content in his chairD
While I tell o'er and o'er the incredible taleJ
Of The Grocery Man and the BearD
