The Forefather Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JCKC LMNM OPQP RSCS

HERE at the country innA
I lie in my quiet bedB
And the ardent onrush of armiesC
Throbs and throbs in my headB
-
Why in this calm sweet placeD
Where only silence is heardE
Am I ware of the crash of conflictF
Is my blood to battle stirredE
-
Without the night is blessedG
With the smell of pines with starsH
Within is the mood of slumberI
The healing of daytime scarsH
-
T is strange yet I am thrallJ
To epic agoniesC
The tumult of myriads dyingK
Is borne to me on the breezeC
-
Mayhap in the long agoL
My forefather grim and starkM
Stood in some hell of carnageN
Faced forward fell in the darkM
-
And I who have always knownO
Peace with her dove like waysP
Am gripped by his martial spiritQ
Here in the after daysP
-
I cannot rightly tellR
I lie from all stress apartS
And the ardent onrush of armiesC
Surges hot through my heartS
