Carol Anne Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDECFGHIJBKLBMCNO PQRSTCIBUBBV

Over there in that country graveyardA
Where few wild wild flowers are lainB
Over there they lay over my little sisterC
Over there lay my small sad sisterC
Now at rest with long gone grandparentsD
She s gone from us forever at a very early ageE
Once while young was as fragile as the most fragile flowerC
Restless as the wildest wind unable to be contentF
Born seeking love as deep as the oceanG
This was the girl I tried hard to guideH
Left her back in our Pioneer Valley our only known childhood homeI
To try and escape very unpleasant memoriesJ
To see the world and its riches fame and fortune to gainB
In the hope of rewriting my early experiencesK
When I returned to New York no treasures or caring friendsL
Could ease my heart so full of painB
I had tried so hard to guide Carol AnneM
But at her untimely end I felt I had failed herC
Now so cold there on that weedy fieldN
Below that mound of uneven groundO
My mind wanders thereP
The girl I tried so often to comfortQ
Noe she lays between those transplanted flowersR
Lovingly placed there by a saintly auntS
She lay I so hope she is at peace with herselfT
I ll again go away and I ll again wanderC
Hoping one day that my path leads back homeI
Now I leave aside my meager earthly gainB
And I ll not end it myself with simple richesU
Undone in sorrow I remainB
Yes undone in sorrow I remainB
Author Brother RCM for anyone caring enough to read or to sing of her memoryV
