Philomel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHDDHH FFIICCFF

As it fell upon a dayA
In the merry month of MayA
Sitting in a pleasant shadeB
Which a grove of myrtles madeB
Beasts did leap and birds did singC
Trees did grow and plants did springC
Everything did banish moanD
Save the Nightingale aloneD
She poor bird as all forlornE
Lean'd her breast up till a thornE
And there sung the dolefull'st dittyF
That to hear it was great pityF
Fie fie fie now would she cryG
Tereu Tereu by and byG
That to hear her so complainH
Scarce I could from tears refrainH
For her griefs so lively shownD
Made me think upon mine ownD
Ah thought I thou mourn'st in vainH
None takes pity on thy painH
Senseless trees they cannot hear theeF
Ruthless beasts they will not cheer theeF
King Pandion he is deadI
All thy friends are lapp'd in leadI
All thy fellow birds do singC
Careless of thy sorrowingC
Even so poor bird like theeF
None alive will pity meF
