The Poplar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CDEF GH IJKLMINOPAQ GRSTUBU VA

Why do you always stand there shiveringA
Between the white stream and the roadB
-
The people pass through the dustC
On bicycles in carts in motor carsD
The waggoners go by at downE
The lovers walk on the grass path at nightF
-
Stir from your roots walk poplarG
You are more beautiful than they areH
-
I know that the white wind loves youI
Is always kissing you and turning upJ
The white lining of your green petticoatK
The sky darts through you like blue rainL
And the grey rain drips on your flanksM
And loves youI
And I have seen the moonN
Slip his silver penny into your pocketO
As you straightened your hairP
And the white mist curling and hesitatingA
Like a bashful lover about your kneesQ
-
I know you poplarG
I have watched you since I was tenR
But if you had a little real loveS
A little strengthT
You would leave your nonchalant idle loversU
And go walking down the white roadB
Behind the waggonersU
-
There are beautiful beeches down beyond the hillV
Will you always stand there shiveringA
