Bombardment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIJ KLMNO

Four days the earth was rent and tornA
By bursting steelB
The houses fell about usC
Three nights we dared not sleepD
Sweating and listening for the imminent crashE
Which meant our deathF
-
The fourth night every manG
Nerve tortured racked to exhaustionH
Slept muttering and twitchingI
While the shells crashed overheadJ
-
The fifth day there came a hushK
We left our holesL
And looked above the wreckage of the earthM
To where the white clouds moved in silent linesN
Across the untroubled blueO
