A Camp In The Prussian Forest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGGHHIJ BBKK LLMMNNOO PPQQ RSRS

I walk beside the prisoners to the roadA
Load on puffed loadA
Their corpses stacked like sodden woodB
Lie barred or galled with bloodC
-
By the charred warehouse No one comes to dayD
In the old wayD
To knock the fillings from their teethE
The dark coned common wreathE
-
Is plaited for their grave a kind of griefF
The living leafF
Clings to the planted profitableG
Pine if it is ableG
The boughs sigh mile on green calm breathing mileH
From this dead fileH
The planners ruled for them One yearI
They sent a million hereJ
-
-
Here men were drunk like water burnt like woodB
The fat of goodB
and evil the breast's star of hopeK
were rendered into soapK
-
I paint the star I sawed from yellow pineL
And plant the signL
In soil that does not yet refuseM
Its usual JewsM
Their first asylum But the white dwarfed starN
This dead white starN
Hides nothing pays for nothing smokeO
Fouls it a yellow jokeO
-
The needles of the wreath are chalked with ashP
A filmy trashP
Litters the black woods with the deathQ
of men and one last breathQ
-
Curls from the monstrous chimney I laugh aloudR
Again and againS
The star laughs from its rotting shroudR
Of flesh O star of menS
