Mahatma Thou shall be living this hourA
So do you understand the need of the hourA
We beckon a fiercest battle every yearB
So come the troubles nearB
Divide the minds so dearB
-
Mahatma Thou shall come alive with flesh and bloodC
Thou shall see the world much democratisedC
A century of countries freedC
A new nation is born every half a decadeC
Not only of struggle and deedC
From the clutches of the colonial throbbingD
Exploitation of the reform ManeuveringD
But of the creed that we swallowedC
This was the time's demandC
And the freedom that has come has comeE
With all the elements that are troublesomeE
Freedom was possible if not achieved fullyF
Equality and equity are alluring elusiveG
Thine India forged aheadC
Amidst a billion problems facing aheadC
While we salute Thee on nd October and th JanuaryF
We never forget the Last who you loved unto the lastC
Who in realism lost the very gene of lifeH
We never forget himI
We strive to keep him till the lastC
So the need would arise to serve himI
As we 'celebrate' Martyr's DayC
Amidst us are there your killersJ
What a realization paying homage to TheeF
As their ideology changed along with timeK
Now for them you are a son not the father of the landC
As you came late to their landC
Thousands of years after BuddhaL
You are fortunate to die a blissful deathM
Not to witness your landC
In the hands of the 'modern builders' of the nationN
And the new ideologuesO
Like the camouflaged foxes among the goatsP
You would not have died a more glorious death than thisQ
Said a philosopher of philosophersJ
While you glorified Death and sanctified the LevellerF
We glorified ourselves to powerF
-
Mahatma Thou shall be living this hourF
Or we shall be dyingD
Had you not taught us the means to fightC
We would have got our freedom from the colonial powerF
But not from bloodshed hatred biasR
Where fathers bury their sonsS
Mother witness their daughter s modesty robbedC
Mahatma Thou shall be living this hourF
Or we shall be dyingD
-
Gandhi s Birth DateC
Gandhi s Martyrdom dayC
