| As everyone of us sometimes learns | D |
| And many a failure turns about | E |
| when they might have won had they stuck it out | E |
| Do not give up though the pace seems low | F |
| You may succeed with another blow | F |

| Often the goal is nearer than | G |
| it seems to a faint and faltering man | G |
| Often the struggler has given up | H |
| when he might have captured the Victor's cup | H |
| And he learnt too late when he night came down | I |
| how close he was to the golden crown | I |

| It may be near when it seems so far so stick | J |
| to the fight when you are hardest hit | C |
| It's when things seem worse that you must not quit times | K |
