Dominus Illuminatio Mea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAA BBBB CCCC DEEE

In the hour of death after this life's whimA
When the heart beats low and the eyes grow dimA
And pain has exhausted every limbA
The lover of the Lord shall trust in HimA
-
When the will has forgotten the lifelong aimB
And the mind can only disgrace its fameB
And a man is uncertain of his own nameB
The power of the Lord shall fill this frameB
-
When the last sigh is heaved and the last tear shedC
And the coffin is waiting beside the bedC
And the widow and child forsake the deadC
The angel of the Lord shall lift this headC
-
For even the purest delight may pallD
And power must fail and the pride must fallE
And the love of the dearest friends grow smallE
But the glory of the Lord is all in allE

Walter Elwell: Although mainly forgotten in this day, the deep truth of this poem remains for those who have ears to hear. May God enlighten us to understand what Blackmore so profoundly knew. When all of life's glory inevitably comes to an end, only what really matters remains, and The Glory of the Lord is All in All.
