From afar all you seeA
Is scanty hairB
Close to him you see sunken eyesC
And his lips so dry and splitD
By the face of hungerE
He is so pale and yetF
His mother has given him her bestG
To make him surviveH
It's all she can affordI
A sketchy meal a dayJ
-
His house unlike others'K
Has NO wallsL
Its roof spread out leavesM
And his blanketN
The wrath of the cold nightO
-
Besides him many pass byP
Look at him ignore and condemnQ
Yet he does not choose to beA
In this a SITUATION that life brings himR
And humanity always blaming himR
Worst of all disregarding himR
As though he never was humanS
-
Have we learned to shorten our handsT
Close our eyes and deafen our earsU
To the cries of this childV
A voice calling for redemption from the neighborhoodW
And yet all we giveX
Is demise and disgustY
-
How cruel that isZ
If not us then who willA2
Put a smile on his faceB2
Fill his mouth with laughter and his lipsC2
With rejoicingD2
Why should we let him dieP
In the cold nightO
Under the scanty treeshadeO
Amid the dangers of the streetO
-
Who will his mother appreciateO
When he diesC
And we only looked onE2
And down on himR
Harken to my callF2
And save him this tragedyO
For this is life's demand from usG2

Poet's note: This piece is for those little children roaming on streets with nobody to render a hand. To the African child who faces the consequences of tyrannical rulers and their selfish aggression. To the orphan who has nothing but the emptiness of the streets to comfort him.
