The Warrior's Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DBEB ABAB FBFB GBGB HBHB

Long since in sore distress I heard one prayA
'Lord who prevailest with resistless mightB
Ever from war and strife keep me awayA
My battles fight 'C
-
I know not if I play the PhariseeD
And if my brother after all be rightB
But mine shall be the warrior's plea to theeE
Strength for the fightB
-
I do not ask that thou shalt front the frayA
And drive the warring foeman from my sightB
I only ask O Lord by night by dayA
Strength for the fightB
-
When foes upon me press let me not quailF
Nor think to turn me into coward flightB
I only ask to make mine arms prevailF
Strength for the fightB
-
Still let mine eyes look ever on the foeG
Still let mine armor case me strong and brightB
And grant me as I deal each righteous blowG
Strength for the fightB
-
And when at eventide the fray is doneH
My soul to Death's bedchamber do thou lightB
And give me be the field or lost or wonH
Rest from the fightB
