Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHIA little bird with plumage brown | A |
Beside my window flutters down | A |
A moment chirps its little strain | B |
Ten taps upon my window pane | B |
And chirps again and hops along | C |
To call my notice to its song | C |
But I work on nor heed its lay | D |
Till in neglect it flies away | D |
- | |
So birds of peace and hope and love | E |
Come fluttering earthward from above | E |
To settle on life's window sills | F |
And ease our load of earthly ills | F |
But we in traffic's rush and din | G |
Too deep engaged to let them in | G |
With deadened heart and sense plod on | H |
Nor know our loss till they are gone | I |
