The River Of Ruin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHDDH DFFFF AIJJI

Along by the river of ruinA
They dally the thoughtless onesB
They dance and they dreamC
By the side of the streamC
As long as the river runsB
-
It seems all so pleasant and cheeryD
No thought of the morrow is theirsE
And their faces are brightF
With the sun of delightF
And they dream of no night brooding caresE
-
The women wear garlanded tressesG
The men have rings on their handsH
And they sing in their gleeD
For they think they are freeD
They that know not the treacherous sandsH
-
Ah but this be a venturesome journeyD
Forever those sands are ashiftF
And a step to one sideF
Means a grasp of the tideF
And the current is fearful and swiftF
-
For once in the river of ruinA
What boots it to do or to dareI
For down we must goJ
In the turbulent flowJ
To the desolate sea of DespairI
