The lake's dark breast	A
Is all unrest	A
It heaves with a sob and a sigh	B
Like a tremulous bird	C
From its slumber stirred	C
The moon is a tilt in the sky	B

From the silent deep	D
The waters sweep	D
But faint on the cold white stones	E
And the wavelets fly	B
With a plaintive cry	B
O'er the old earth's bare bleak bones	E

And the spray upsprings	E
On its ghost white wings	E
And tosses a kiss at the stars	E
While a water sprite	F
In sea pearls dight	F
Hums a sea hymn's solemn bars	E

Far out in the night	F
On the wavering sight	F
I see a dark hull loom	G
And its light on high	B
Like a Cyclops' eye	B
Shines out through the mist and gloom	G

Now the winds well up	H
From the earth's deep cup	H
And fall on the sea and shore	I
And against the pier	J
The waters rear	J
And break with a sullen roar	I
	-
Up comes the gale	K
And the mist wrought veil	K
Gives way to the lightning's glare	L
And the cloud drifts fall	M
A sombre pall	N
O'er water earth and air	L
	-
The storm king flies	E
His whip he plies	E
And bellows down the wind	F
The lightning rash	O
With blinding flash	O
Comes pricking on behind	F
	-
Rise waters rise	E
And taunt the skies	E
With your swift flitting form	P
Sweep wild winds sweep	D
And tear the deep	D
To atoms in the storm	P
	-
And the waters leapt	F
And the wild winds swept	F
And blew out the moon in the sky	B
And I laughed with glee	Q
It was joy to me	Q
As the storm went raging by	B
