The Poet And His Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDCD EEAAADAD FFGGHDHD IIJJGDGD

A song is but a little thingA
And yet what joy it is to singA
In hours of toil it gives me zestB
And when at eve I long for restB
When cows come home along the barsC
And in the fold I hear the bellD
As Night the shepherd herds his starsC
I sing my song and all is wellD
-
There are no ears to hear my laysE
No lips to lift a word of praiseE
But still with faith unfalteringA
I live and laugh and love and singA
What matters yon unheeding throngA
They cannot feel my spirit's spellD
Since life is sweet and love is longA
I sing my song and all is wellD
-
My days are never days of easeF
I till my ground and prune my treesF
When ripened gold is all the plainG
I put my sickle to the grainG
I labor hard and toil and sweatH
While others dream within the dellD
But even while my brow is wetH
I sing my song and all is wellD
-
Sometimes the sun unkindly hotI
My garden makes a desert spotI
Sometimes a blight upon the treeJ
Takes all my fruit away from meJ
And then with throes of bitter painG
Rebellious passions rise and swellD
But life is more than fruit or grainG
And so I sing and all is wellD
