The Old Homestead Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHEGJG JKLKMNON PQRQSTUT LBVBDEFE

'Tis an old deserted homesteadA
On the outskirts of the townB
Where the roof is all moss coveredC
And the walls are tumbling downB
But around that little cottageD
Do my brightest mem'ries clingE
For 'twas there I spent the momentsF
Of my youth life's happy springE
-
I remember how I used toG
Swing upon the old front gateH
While the robin in the tree topsI
Sung a night song to his mateH
And how later in the eveningE
As the beaux were wont to doG
Mr Perkins in the parlorJ
Sat and sparked my sister SueG
-
There my mother heaven bless herJ
Kissed or spanked as was our needK
And by smile or stroke implantedL
In our hearts fair virtue's seedK
While my father man of wisdomM
Lawyer keen and farmer stoutN
Argued long with neighbor DobbinsO
How the corn crops would turn outN
-
Then the quiltings and the dancesP
How my feet were wont to flyQ
While the moon peeped through the barn chinksR
From her stately place on highQ
Oh those days so sweet so happyS
Ever backward o'er me rollT
Still the music of that farm lifeU
Rings an echo in my soulT
-
Now the old place is desertedL
And the walls are falling downB
All who made the home life cheerfulV
Now have died or moved to townB
But about that dear old cottageD
Shall my mem'ries ever clingE
For 'twas there I spent the momentsF
Of my youth life's happy springE
