The Black Troops In Cuba Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABAAB CCDCCD EEFEEF GGHGGH

Round the wide earth from the red field your valour has wonA
Blown with the breath of the far speaking gunA
Goes the wordB
Bravely you spoke through the battle cloud heavy and dunA
Tossed though the speech toward the mist hidden sunA
The world heardB
-
Hell would have shrunk from you seeking it fresh from the frayC
Grim with the dust of the battle and grayC
From the fightD
Heaven would have crowned you with crowns not of gold but of bayC
Owning you fit for the light of her dayC
Men of nightD
-
Far through the cycle of years and of lives that shall comeE
There shall speak voices long muffled and dumbE
Out of fearF
And through the noises of trade and the turbulent humE
Truth shall rise over the militant drumE
Loud and clearF
-
Then on the cheek of the honester nation that growsG
All for their love of you not for your woesG
There shall lieH
Tears that shall be to your souls as the dew to the roseG
Afterward thanks that the present yet knowsG
Not to plyH
